Position Overview:
Entrust Datacard is seeking a Technical Software Writer and Technical Illustrator. This position supports Entrust Datacard’s Technical Publications Team by preparing and maintaining software product documentation such as end user manuals and Online Help by preparing illustrations and other graphic materials to supplement hard and soft copy information. The position performs the responsibilities detailed below and other duties as assigned.
 
Responsibilities:
Technical Software Writing – 74%                                                                                                                                                             
  • Prepare and maintain written end user and administrator operational manuals, online help, installation instructions, and technical publications per established standards.
  • Work on all phases of documentation with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Work with a variety of software programs and writing tools.
  • Work with software developers and test engineers with a broad range of communication preferences.
Technical Illustration – 25%                                                                                                                                  
  • Create artistic renderings and visual aids for field service and end user documentation, using graphic arts hardware and software.
  • Create orthographic and isometric illustrations which portray assemblies, subassemblies and components of Datacard equipment.
  • Prepare 3-dimension and animation art for electronic documents.
General – 1%                                                                                                                                                             
  • Communicate with all company levels, especially in software engineering, service and marketing, to gather product and technical information, to solicit reviews of documentation and to provide status reports to those groups.
  • Thoroughly understand all processes, products and audience to provide a well-written document.
  • Contribute to maintenance of internal documentation library.
  • Help maintain multi-user electronic libraries for archiving drawing files and maintain tracking and version control systems.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports related to illustration activity for the department. Provide weekly status reports to manager.
  • Continuously pursue corrective and preventative measures as necessary. 
  • Willing to halt processes that could adversely affect product or service quality.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related technical Communication experience.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines, organize and prioritize work
  • Experience creating and maintaining highly technical, enterprise-level software documentation.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Illustrated Parts manuals and end user graphics, using CAD and PC-based automated tools.
  • Experience creating and maintaining highly technical, enterprise-level software documentation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take direction from department manager and department editor.
  • Ability to work well independently and with cross-functional teams
  • Must be able to lawfully work within the US and have unrestricted work authorization for US.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree program preferably in Technical Communication with an emphasis in computer-based graphics tools and software documentation.
  • Experience using 3DVia software or other 3D technical illustration tool.
  • Expert in Adobe FrameMaker (v. 2015 or higher).
  • Experience in developing and writing SDK and API instructions
  • Expert in Madcap Flare or RoboHelp online help creation software.
