World-leading cyber security business nCipher Security a Entrust Datacard company is seeking talented software engineers to join its ranks in securing some of the world’s most valuable information. Primarily based in Central Cambridge, UK near the railway station with additional sites in US, the business provides vital, trusted crypto security systems to companies all over the world. Cryptography is the backbone of online and mobile security and our encryption products are used by 19 out of 20 of the world’s largest banks, high profile technology companies and a multitude of well-known global companies. An Agile approach is used in product development with engineers working in small teams of six to eight. This allows them to interact, collaborate, respond to change; and they are empowered to make decisions on a daily basis. nCipher Security also prides itself on encouraging and supporting innovation and creativity among its teams and the company is working in a number of exciting and emerging markets.

Key Tasks

·       You will define the software architecture to fulfil the product’s functional and non-functional requirements

·       Ensure our product designs make effective use of industry standard and third-party technologies as well as in-house components

·       You will clearly communicate the architecture to the engineers on the development team, act as a consultant to answer their questions and, working with developers, iterate your design based on evolving knowledge, ensuring that software designs and the software architecture are aligned

·       Identifying and highlighting technical risks, you will take ownership of technical issues and their resolution

·       You will support Product Management, including attending occasional customer-facing meetings.

·       Cross-functional engineering teams: Systems, Development and Test teams


·       Educated to degree level or equivalent, in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or other relevant discipline.

·       8 years + in development of complex enterprise software products




·       Recent experience in a senior software architect role

·       Experience spanning resource-constrained embedded, through to distributed and scalable systems

·       Internet technologies, protocols and standards

·       A strong background in software development, including use of multiple development languages (must include C and Python, may include  Go, C++, or Java)

·       The ability to develop prototypes or proof-of-concept implementations of your ideas


·       Design and/or implementation experience in any of the following technology areas:

o   Containers and virtualization

o   Embedded systems

o   Cryptography and associated concepts in IT security, including security APIs such as PKCS#11, Microsoft CryptoAPI and OpenSSL

o   Web-based Restful technologies

o   Systems making complex use of Databases

·       An appreciation of relevant Quality (ISO9000) requirements and processes

·       Experience working in an Agile development team, experience of Agile at scale (e.g. SAFe)

·       The ability to analyse complex technical problems and offer innovative, reasoned and practical solutions to demanding requirements

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to fluently convey complex designs at multiple levels of abstraction to both technical and non-technical audiences

·       Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and mentor/coach other team members

·       The ability to prioritise, manage your own workload, be flexible, work under pressure and deliver to demanding deadlines
