The Program Manager is responsible for planning, management and execution of multiple major product programs per year and a wide range of initiatives that call for a diverse, expert skill set to effectively support the broader organization. This role assumes broad responsibility for start-to-finish execution with limited management direction. Substantial experience in multiple business and technical disciplines is required.

By definition, a program manager must be capable of planning multiple concurrent, and often conflicting, priorities; achieving results through logic, communication, business judgment and personal relationships without benefit of managerial control; and ultimately delivering products of the highest quality.


Position Summary

 
Work with cross-functional management in Engineering, Product Management, QA, Customer Support, Manufacturing Operations, etc. to plan and deliver new products to market.

  • Lead cross-functional Core Teams to manage the execution of program plans, including backlog reviews, feature prioritization and scoping, resource conflicts, scheduling, progress tracking, issue resolution, defect management, beta programs, product release and product maintenance.

  • Apply product lifecycle (PLC) methods and other process disciplines to ensure predictable, consistent, timely program execution in spite of a large, distributed organization.

  • Work with Product Management to define the Program requirements, establish Program baseline and provide regular reporting including the assessment of risk to senior management.

  • Implement controls to ensure that the program activities are in line with the product objectives and governance requirements.

  • Work in a dynamic and agile work environment to perform real-time scenario planning based on execution velocity, changing priorities, and market shifts.

  • Participate in product strategy and roadmap planning.
     

Essential/Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Plan, direct, and lead program delivery through the Product Life Cycle to achieve strategic business goals and drive overall success of the product line.

  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.

  • Lead the project requirements definition process to identify project goals and deliverables in collaboration with Product Management.

  • Develop project plans and reporting in collaboration with Product Management, Product Marketing, R&D, Sales, Support and Operations using standard tools provided by the PMO.

  • Proactively identify (at an early stage) and manage key risks throughout the product life cycle in order to minimize potential for disruption to project schedules.

  • Work to cross-functionally to achieve high standards of program control, reporting, and governance.

 

 


Technical Knowledge/Skills & Experience Required

  • 7+ years of experience in a program/project management capacity.

  • Demonstrated success in delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

  • Experience with project management software, product development methods, tools, and processes.

  • Ability to concisely communicate complex issues and concepts.

  • Ability to perform effectively in an ambiguous or loosely structured environment.

  • Experience working independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • Experience in working in an environment of shifting priorities, demands and timelines and application of analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Customer facing job experience preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Product strategy and business planning experience.

  • Experience in a high growth business environment.

  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and products.

  • Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Project Management Institute Professional Certification (PMP) or similar.

  • Proven track record of working closely with R&D, Sales, Product Management, Marketing, and Operations over the product lifecycle to delivery product.

  • Creative problem solving skills, negotiation skills, and effective interaction with senior management.
