The Database Architect has an end-to-end vision of how a logical data design will translate into one or more physical data repositories located in our global datacenters.  An understanding is required of designing for a hybrid environment, databases located on premise and in the Cloud.  The DB Architect will evaluate current database designs and propose solutions to meet current and future business requirements of large, international customers. S/he must be skilled in data modeling and normalization to ensure that the databases are designed to meet data integrity and performance requirements.  The Database Architect will support the development team in the application development lifecycle.  The focus will be on tasks assisting developers in building and maintaining the proper database structures required for new and enhanced application features.

  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation efforts meet application integration, performance and scalability expectations
  • Advise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc.)
  • Review developer proposed schema changes including table designs and datatypes to ensure the changes meet standards and performance requirements
  • Review developer proposed SQL statements, stored procedures, triggers and user defined functions and recommend changes to ensure that efficient SQL is being coded
  • Design indexes for tables, choosing when to add or remove indexes
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement
  • Create or generate a database model for the existing databases
  • Run SQL Server Profiler traces and other tools to find the most frequently run queries
  • Use free tools like sp BlitzIndex® and DMV queries to answer questions about index usage

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years Development DBA experience
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server tools experience
  • Experience with Hibernate
  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and scrum teams
  • College or university degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline or equivalent work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
