Cloud Database Engineer                                          REQ# 20000001S

The Cloud Database Engineer has an end-to-end responsibility on building and operating a set of DB clusters across our global datacenters. The Cloud Database Engineer will be responsible for the performance, integrity, security, and troubleshooting of multiple databases. S/he must be skilled in data modeling and normalization to ensure that the databases are designed to meet data integrity and performance requirements.  The Cloud Database Engineer will support the development team during the application development lifecycle to review and guide data modeling design decisions.

  • Research, architect, build and maintain high performing DB clusters and disaster recovery strategy across multiple data centers
  • Work with Development and Operations to evaluate and align on database technology decisions
  • Assist operation in troubleshooting customer issues
  • Advise developers on the most efficient and secure database designs and queries in both single and multi-tenant scenarios
  • Contribute to the ongoing performance & HA testing
  • Review and assess database vulnerabilities to determine appropriate solutions to address any findings on a continuous basis
  • Create and build upon existing automation foundation to script the execution of operations and deployment tasks

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years DBA experience
  • 2+ years of High Availability, High Security, Internet Datacenter experience and the requisite rigor needed to operate in that environment
  • Detailed application documentation skills and experience
  • Strong experience with Postgresql, MySQL, MariaDB and/or other open source database technologies
  • Experience with Hibernate
  • Design and deployment experience with most of the following technologies: Apache Tomcat, VMware, Red Hat Linux
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and scrum teams
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization for Canada and ability to travel freely to Canada and internationally
  • U.S. Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with AWS Cloud Database solutions
  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment
  • Familiarity with PKIs and related technologies (Directories, HSMs, OCSP) and security practices
  • Experience delivering enterprise-scale technical service via IaaS-enabled infrastructures
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, C++ programming and other languages will be a strong asset
  • Familiarity with automation platforms such as Ansible and Chef
  • Working knowledge of PKI policy and Audit compliance
