Associate HR Business Partner

Position Overview: 

Working with and reporting to the Sr. HR Manager, this position is accountable for ensuring HR issues within the assigned business client group functions are addressed and resolved as well as partnering with HR leadership and client groups to support strategic HR direction.  The Associate HR Business Partner will support our employees across Canada and will be based in our Ottawa office.  The Associate HR Business Partner provides HR counsel and problem resolution support with building high performing teams through performance management, talent acquisition, employee relations, interpretation/application of employment policies and procedures to the assigned business unit(s).  The Associate HR Business Partner will be accountable for executing the items detailed below and for performing other duties as assigned

Responsibilities:
  • Build strong and trusting relationships with client group business leaders , and partner with them to assess needs and establish HR priorities.
  • Manage highly sensitive and confidential information related to employee relations issues.
  • Responsible for HR administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Provide back up support to Senior HR Manager and Canada payroll.
  • Support HR, business unit, and corporate driven change initiatives.
  • Effectively manage employee relations issues, in partnership with HR Leadership and Legal, to support investigations and conflict resolution or mediation activities. 
  • Recommend and administer policies and procedures that support the assigned business unit and company philosophy, culture and strategic goals.
  • Work with assigned business unit leadership and HR team members to manage voluntary and involuntary employee separations.
  • Partner with managers to proactively define workforce needs for open positions or incremental staff.
  • Partner with client leaders and the talent acquisition team on all open positions for client group to ensure we recruit and hire the best talent for our needs.
  • Facilitate performance management and talent management processes within assigned business unit.
  • Lead projects and/or teams as assigned and ensure projects are completed on schedule.
  • Participate on the global onboarding team as lead for Canada to facilitate effective onboarding of new colleagues.
  • Oversee Canadian disability case management.
  • Generate new social committee ideas and assist in coordination of events.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Support colleague development programs and facilitate and track various learning session for local colleagues.

Basic Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education, Human Resources field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in Human Resources, including exposure to managing employee relations cases, disability case management, and working directly with in-house or external legal counsel.
  • Experience with payroll management
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environment; multi-tasking and prioritizing work
  • Knowledge of employment law 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Focused problem-solving skills, analytical and system thinking ability; demonstrated through previous experience
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Suite)
  • Ability to build strong relationships through demonstrated confidentiality and initiative
  • Strong teamwork capabilities
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a global HR organization
  • Experience in recruiting entry level positions
  • Experience in leading change initiatives
  • HR Certification (CHRP, SHRM)
  • Proven success in leading project teams
