Position Overview: 

Working with and reporting to the HR Manager, this position is accountable for assuring HR issues within the assigned functions and segments are addressed and resolved as well as partnering with HR leadership and client groups to support strategic HR direction.  The Associate HR Business Partner will support our employees across Canada and will be based in our Ottawa office.  The Associate HR Business Partner provides HR counsel and problem resolution support with building high performing teams through performance management, talent acquisition, employee relations, interpretation/application of employment policies and procedures to the assigned business unit(s).  The Associate HR Business Partner will be accountable for executing the items detailed below and for performing other duties as assigned

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build strong and trusting relationships with the business leaders within your assigned business unit.

  • Partner with Business Unit Leaders to assess needs and establish HR priorities.

  • Develop and maintain intimate knowledge of the business and the marketplace in order to influence effectiveness and provide insight to assigned business unit.

  • Support HR and business unit driven change initiatives.

  • Effectively manage employee relations issues.  Partner with HR Leadership to support investigations and conflict resolution or mediation activities.  Seek counsel from legal team as needed.

  • Recommend and administer policies and procedures that support the assigned business unit and company philosophy, culture and strategic goals.

  • Work with assigned business unit leadership and HR team members to manage voluntary and involuntary employee separations.

  • Partner with line managers to proactively define workforce needs for open positions or incremental staff.

  • Partner with client leaders and the talent acquisition team on all open positions for client group to ensure we recruit and hire the best talent for our needs.

  • Partner with Compensation team and Sr. Management to set strategy for base compensation policy programs.

  • Facilitate performance management and talent management processes within assigned business unit.

  • Support change initiatives at the HR, business-unit or corporate level.

  • Lead projects and/or teams as assigned and ensure projects are completed on schedule.

  • Lead employee onboarding program, while continuously partnering with recruitment and the business to improve.

  • Oversee Canadian disability case management. Generate new social committee ideas and assist in coordination of events.

  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee.

  • Facilitate and track various learning sessions for local colleagues.

  • Provide back-up support for our payroll department

  • Support colleague development programs.

 

 


 


Basic Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education, Human Resources field
  • 2-5 years of experience working in Human Resources in a generalist or business partner capacity, including managing complex employee relations cases, disability case management, and working directly with in-house or external legal counsel.

  • Experience with payroll management

  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environment; multi-tasking and prioritizing work

  • Knowledge of employment law 

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Focused problem-solving skills, analytical and system thinking ability; demonstrated through previous experience

  • Experience coordinating and managing projects

  • Strong initiative and results orientation

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Suite)

  • Ability to build strong relationships through demonstrated confidentiality and initiative

  • Strong teamwork capabilities

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a global HR organization

  • Experience in recruiting entry level positions

  • Experience in leading change initiatives

  • Strategic thinking as demonstrated through long-term planning initiatives

  • HR Certification (CHRP, SHRM)

  • Proven success in leading project teams
